Steps to Metta Meditation for inner peace
- Begin by finding a comfortable seated posture.
- Then bring your awareness to your breath. Notice the sensations of your breath as it enters(inhale) and leaves(exhale) your body.
- After a few minutes, begin to visualize a circle of people around you. Start with the person to your immediate left and then move clockwise around the circle.
- Think about all the people who you may want to offer loving-kindness to: friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, strangers, people in need, animals, and the environment. Furthermore spread the kind thoughts your hated people, enemies so on.. Later on you will realize how peaceful your mind is.
- As each person appears in the circle, silently offer them loving-kindness by repeating phrases such as: “May you be safe, may you be happy, may you be healthy and live with ease.”
- Continue to move around the circle, offering loving-kindness to each person. When your mind wanders, just gently return your attention to the circle and continue.
- Finally, direct the loving-kindness towards yourself. Say to yourself, “May I be safe, may I be happy, may I be healthy and live with ease.”
- After a few minutes, slowly open your eyes and take a few moments to just sit and take in the feeling of loving-kindness.
